The other day, someone (who will remain anonymous, but who is a true hater of all things good—her motto is “Why say anything nice when there’s so much negativity to whine about.”) sent me this article: Was Mother Teresa actually sort of a jerk? http://news.yahoo.com/mother-teresa-actually-sort-jerk-182700128.html

What disgusted me more than the content of the article was the pleasure the sender got in destroying another person. This sender of vitriolic info so loves to trash stuff, I swear she get’s orgasmic when she shares it with me. She salivates and breathes loudly as she tells me bad things about someone whom I admire, trust, or, heaven forbid, like. She gets especially excited when she is able to belittle my religious beliefs. I am Catholic, and am proud to be one, so she never wastes an opportunity to vilify the church. She, a former Catholic, wears her agnostic status like a badge of honor, while I view it as someone who is just too lazy to go to church once in a while.
Now I realize that the Catholic Church has a lot to answer for in the horrible sex scandals of the last decade and I do not defend those priests for their depravity, however, I also believe that it is a faith worth keeping. It’s made a lot of mistakes over it’s 2,000+ year history and will most likely make many more, but it’s done a great deal of good also.
But, religious beliefs aside, what I want to say to all of you haters of positive – Don’t be hating, be supporting. Or as the modern day philosopher Niecy Nash says: “Don’t be hatin, ya’ll.”
